Engraving
Engraving is a way of removing part of the surface of your material. Jewellery is often engraved – for example, with a name or date. However, you can also use engraving for decorative purposes, and it can be applied to much more than just jewellery.
We personalise our products by adding engravings. This is preceded by a design process. We draw on our own creativity, but we also often create an engraving based on, for example, an existing logo. Using vector files, we build up the engraving in lines and map out the path the machine must follow. An engraving machine cannot engrave colour, but our designers think in terms of contrast. Using black and white, you can specify which parts of the material remain and which are engraved away. This creates optical depth.
In our workshop, we use two engraving techniques: diamond engraving and laser engraving. Both techniques produce different results. A diamond carves into the material, whilst the laser burns into it.
